About Large Silk Scarf & Shawl
Our large silk scarf and shawl collection is designed for the moments a regular 90 cm square is too small — opera nights, summer evenings on a hotel rooftop, over-air-conditioned business class cabins, and any time you want a wrap that doubles as a travel blanket. Each piece is woven from 22-momme, Grade 6A mulberry silk (some styles in a more drapeable 16-momme silk-cashmere blend), edges hand-rolled, OEKO-TEX certified. Wear yours as an evening shoulder wrap over a cocktail dress, a sarong on the beach, a triangular cape over a winter coat, or a king-size square folded into a long stole. We stock 53 x 53 in (135 cm) classic square shawls, oblong 28 x 75 in stoles, and oversized 55 x 55 in throws. Browse the full large silk scarf collection below.
Frequently Asked Questions
Anything 53 x 53 in (135 cm square) or bigger is a shawl-class scarf. A standard square (around 90 x 90 cm) sits at the neck or wraps the head; a shawl-class square fully covers the shoulders and upper arms, can tie as a halter top, and folds into a long oblong stole. Our largest pieces run 55 x 55 in for genuine wrap-yourself-in-it coverage on a chilly evening. Anything labelled "foulard" is the smaller 90 cm size.
More than you'd expect. The triangular cross-section of mulberry silk fibers traps a thin insulating air layer, so a 22-momme silk shawl is roughly equivalent to a light cashmere wrap in cool weather — but with a more breathable feel. For sub-freezing conditions you'd still want wool, but for air-conditioned restaurants, summer rooftops, and a long flight, silk hits the right balance: warm enough to nap under, light enough to fold into a clutch.
Three techniques. (1) Fold the shawl on the bias before draping — a slight diagonal grip on the body prevents the slide. (2) Use a small decorative pin or scarf ring at the center of the chest to anchor both ends. (3) For the most secure look, wrap the shawl once around the neck and let the rest fall behind — the wrap itself locks the front in place. Heavier 22-momme silk grips better than lightweight 12 or 14 momme.
Hand-wash in cool water (under 30°C) with a pH-neutral silk wash, supporting the weight in both hands — never let a wet shawl hang in the air, the weight will distort the weave. Lay flat between two towels, press out moisture, and air-dry flat away from sun. Iron on the silk setting from the reverse side while slightly damp if needed. For evening-wear pieces, dry cleaning is fine once or twice a year. Full care steps in the Silk Care Guide.
